Violence is a major device in art. It can be the tool for chaos with the antagonist or weapon of heroics for the protaganist. There are murky and unclear whys to characters who use violence. It is excitement in a blockbuster, fear in a thriller and power in the hands of a bully.
This community conversation, on National Black Poetry Day, discusses the role of violence in art. How can the artist use this device to save communities? Address societal ills? And/or be an asset?
